Wow, February has gone already! The time of new year’s resolutions feels long past and some of my goals have slightly changed. I want to focus more on Swedish to speed up my progress and be able to have decent conversations soon. I am going to maintain my French by reading and watching movies and videos, but for now it isn’t my priority . My Japanese really needs to be refreshed though, so I have to find motivation to work on it!
How did I do last month?
I would say I did so so with the goals for February.
For Swedish, I did spend some time practicing listening: I started following vlogger Clara Henry, I watched the first two movies of the Millennium trilogy with subtitles and also spent a few days in Stockholm, in contact with real everyday conversations. I listened to lots of music in Swedish as well!
I managed to get to 600 expressions on Memrise – Swedish 3, but I didn’t do great with Babbel and Learningswedish. Also I started looking at the Rivstart books and did some exercise, but I don’t have a proper routine yet.
With French I slowed down a bit. I watched quite a lot of videos from SolangeTeParle – I think she’s great. I also read some blog posts and researched some vocabulary, but I didn’t write as much as I wanted to.
I’m still struggling to bring back my passion for Japanese. I didn’t read much, but I did watch a few videos and two movies: Miss Hokusai and Evangelion: You are (not) alone. I can still follow the story without looking at subtitles, so at least that was a confidence boost!
Goals for March
In March I will be attending a full time course to become an Italian language teacher and I’m pretty excited!
This means I will not have as much time to study three languages, so the word of the month will be optimise. Unfortunately French and Japanese will have to be mostly put aside for now.
Most of my study time in March will be during my commute. I will practice vocabulary on Memrise and finish the deck Swedish 3, and do one lesson on Babbel per week. As I will probably be very tired on my way back home, I am going to use that time to listen to songs in Swedish.
During my stay in Stockholm I bought a comic for kids – I never thought I’d get so much satisfaction from understanding material aimed at 6 years old children! In the weekend I will spend 30 minutes reading, researching words and writing them down on my notebook.
Finally, I am starting to include some writing and occasional speaking in my everyday life. It was about time!
French and Japanese
I will use the languages I know better in my leisure time. For each I hope I’ll manage to watch one video and read one article per week.
I will be running about most of the month, but I hope it is going to be a positive one!
